Birds Eye- view of Entrance Exams for professional courses and higher Study

Today’s  world  has become very competitive and Darwin’s theory Survival of the fittest also applicable in the job market. Most of the admissions for professional courses are through entrance exams after 12th standard. Tougher is the exam higher is the return. So long term and short term planning is necessary to succeed in the exams. In this article there is birds eye-view of such exams.

  1.  NEET:

For all the medical courses in India like M.B.B.S, B.D.S, Ayurvedic, Homeopathic selection is done only through through National Eligibility Entrance Test conducted by CBSE.

The exam scheme is as follows. Candidate has to select Physics, Chemistry and Biology at P.U.C level.The scheme of exam which is multiple choice is as follows.

Total                180  Questions      720 mark

  1. Engineering:

There are multiple entrance exams in the selection process in Engneering for the different types of institutes. Indian Institutes of Technologies (I.I.T) are the best engineering institutes in India followed by National Institutes which are there in every state.  There are Government, Aided and Private institutes and Deemed Universities. In the new Educational policy it is proposed single exam like NEE for engineering admission.

 

 

  1.  JEE Main:

The admission criteria in under graduate programmes inIIT’s, National Instiutes of Technology and other centrally funded institutions is based on perfomanc in 12th \equivalent annual exam and JEE main.

Subjects-Physics, Chemistry and mathematics.

 

 

Three hours exam in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 100 marks each in the subject which is online and based on multiple choice..

  1. JEE advance:

Admission to IIT under graduate programme is through JEE advance Exam. To Qualify JEE advance candidates should perform well in the annual exam as well as JEE main exam. This exam is objective as well as problem solving.

Subjects: Physics, Chemistry and mathematics.

It is a computr based exam which consists of two papers 1 and 2 each of 3 hours duration in : Physics, Chemistry and mathematics. Paper one in MCQ and paper two is descriptive-like solving probles but pattern varies.

 

 

  1. C.E.T Karnataka;

For the admission for engineering in Govermnent, Aided andand Government quota in Private institutes C.E.T ranking is considered. For this marks in the subjects in the annual exam s well as entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examinination Authority is considered in equal weightage.

 

Scheme for examination:

  1. inutes for each paper Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of 60 marks each.

This exam is also considerd to B.V.Sc & A.H, BSc: Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Dairy Science, Forestry, Sericulture, B.Pharma, : Food Science and Technology, Agriculture Engg.

The admission forprivate engineering collges in Karnataka is based on all India Level exam COMEDKin Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

 

  1. Hotel Management: National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint Entrance Exam (NCHMCT JEE)

 

Bachelor of Hotel Management is one of the popular under graduate programme which provides technical skill and hospitality skills to meet the demands of Hotel and tourism industry.

 

 

4)      NDA:

National Defence Academy entrance exam is conducted by UPSC to select the candidate for the course of officers of Indian defence force.

  • For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy 12th Class passes with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education is the minimum qualification.
  • The subjects of the written examination are

Mathematics of 300 marks, General Ability Test 600 marks followed by Interview.

  • For Army Wing of NDA :-
  •    12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University

 

 

5)    CLAT:

Common Law Aptitude test is the common entrance exams for 28 National level Institutions which includes National Law University from which best legal experts are graduated.  The students of these institutions have great job opportunities globally and also in India.

Minimum qualification is good perfomancein class 12 annual exam in any stream.

 

 Entrance exam scheme:

  • English( 50 Marks), Reasoning ( 40 Marks), G K ( 50 marks), Maths( 20),  Legal aptitute( 50).  Maths is of 10th STD

6. CAT:

Common Admission Test is the is the largest and toughest  MBA  entrance exam conducted In India annually for Indian Institutes ofManagement ( IIM) and top B- schools.   Minimum qualification graduation with 50%. Students in the final year can apply and write the test.

Written Exam scheme( Online)

  1. Quantitive Aptitude (Geometry, Algebra, numbers of highschool )
  2. Verbal ability and reading comprehension
  3. Data Interpretation and Logical reasoning

Each section 100 question each,of 3 marks each af duration 3hours.

It will be followed by group discussion and interview.

 

7. Graduate Record Examination (GRE):

Graduate Record Examination is the admission test required for most of the graduated schools in USA. It aims at to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing and critical thinking skills.

8. TOEFL

Test Of English A Foreign Language is a Standardized test that evaluates the English Proficiency of people whose native language is not English.  institutes in the United States and Canada require TOEFL scores from each applicant. The test is also used by institutions in other countries where English is the language of Instruction. . TOEFL test is administered as a computer based test in India.

9. The Graduate Aptitute Test in Engineering ( GATE).

It is an examination to test the understanding of various subjects in engineering and science for admission into Masters degree.

It of three hours duration with a section on general aptitude and rest on subject of choice. The admission for P G programmes and grant of scholarships  is based on GATE scores.  Engineering graduates and Science post graduates can write this exam.
